The tour leaves in the late afternoon from Via Roma 32 in Pompeii, lasts three hours in total, and includes about an hour and a half on site. In certain times of the year, that window ends before the sun actually sets, and those who booked the "sunset" tour go home with nice photos in warm light and the feeling of having been misled by the title.
